Nuova pubblicazione con Auand Records per il chitarrista, con Nico Tangherlini (pianoforte), Lorenzo Scipioni (contrabbasso) e Jacopo Ausili (batteria)
Scarlet è «un colore doppio, che racchiude eleganza ma anche passione ed energia. Il rosso scarlatto rappresenta passionalità, è il colore del sangue ma anche di tessuti molto pregiati».
Nasce così Scar Let, il nuovo album del chitarrista Stefano Coppari – con Nico Tangherlini (pianoforte), Lorenzo Scipioni (contrabbasso) e Jacopo Ausili (batteria) – in uscita per Auand Records. E questa doppia anima svelata dal titolo si può ritrovare anche all’interno della musica, con elementi più strettamente legati alla musica colta come la centralità del pianoforte, le frequenti sfumature dinamiche e una chiara vena melodica, che si intrecciano con l’imprevedibilità e l’inconsuetudine delle composizioni.
Con la vittoria al Jazz Festival Johnny Raducanu nel 2018, la formazione ha maturato un suono il cui risultato va oltre la somma dei componenti: come spiega il chitarrista, non ci si è limitati a comporre e suonare: «Ognuno ha apportato idee, arrangiamenti e stimoli su cui ci si è limitati a comporre e suonare: «Ognuno ha apportato idee, arrangiamenti e stimoli su cui poi abbiamo potuto costruire un suono, in un percorso che ci ha portato a vivere questi questi brani e l’idea di band in modo molto efficace e

Dal punto di vista tecnico, troviamo loop di chitarra abbinati a melodie lineari, sonorità a volte spigolose e sperimentali, ritmi ipnotici che creano cambi repentini di colori e atmosfere, catapultando inaspettatamente l’ascoltatore in momenti sonori spesso contrapposti tra loro senza preavviso
L’unico brano non originale del disco è proprio quello che ha segnato la loro svolta, “La Mouffe”, una sorta di pietra miliare della band: «Per partecipare all’International Jazz Festival Johnny Raducanu, abbiamo voluto arrangiare un brano del compositore omonimo. Mentre lo provavamo ci siamo accorti che stava nascendo un suono di gruppo, una sensazione difficile da spiegare, ma eravamo molto eccitati da questa cosa. È stato un momento molto illuminante, che ci ha permesso di credere nella direzione musicale in
cui stavamo andando».
I brani originali sono ricchi di giochi di parole come “Alt Her Ego”, “Heartbeat” o come la title track, spiegata dallo stesso ideatore: «“Scarlet” può facilmente diventare “Scar Let”, sfruttando il verbo “To Let” (lasciare, permettere) e il sostantivo “Scar” (cicatrice), il titolo suggerisce anche un lasciarsi cicatrizzare, un lasciarsi curare attraverso la musica. E come sia possibile farlo attraverso le nostre passioni, le persone e i luoghi che amiamo e che permettono di rimarginare le nostre ferite».

Scarlet is «a double color representing elegance as well as passion and energy. Red is the color of blood, and also of refined fabric.» Auand Records has just released “Scar Let”, Stefano Coppari new album – featuring Nico Tangherlini (piano), Lorenzo Scipioni (double bass) and Jacopo Ausili (drums).
Its double spirit is reflected in the title as well as in the tracks, sometimes close to cultivated music, especially when focused on the piano, the dynamics and a certain melodic flair, all mixed with unusual, surprising compositions.
After their award at Johnny Raducanu Jazz Festival in 2018, the band developed a more mature sound that went beyond writing and playing, as the guitarist explains: «Each of us brought ideas, arrangements and inspirations that we used as a base to build our sound. Following this path, we now live these tracks – and the idea of a band in general – in a more efficient, productive way.»
Speaking of technique, the tracks are filled with guitar loops combined with uncomplicated melodies; experimental, sometimes angular sounds; hypnotic rhythms that generate changes in colours and moods, taking the listener in very different directions.
The turning-point track is also the only non-original track: “La Mouffe”, which is a milestone for the band, somehow. «For the Johnny Raducanu International Jazz Festival, we had to arrange a composition written by this artist. When rehearsing, we realized that something like a real “band sound” was taking shape. It’s hard to explain, it was very exciting. It was eye-opening, and allowed us to believe in the music direction we were taking.»
Original compositions are full of puns, such as “Alt Her Ego”, “Heartbeat” or the title track, explained by the composer himself: «“Scarlet” can easily become “Scar Let”, suggesting a moment to scar over, to heal over with music. And also with our passions, and our beloved people and places that allow us to heal.».
